Keeseville Plein Air Festival

Registration Closed for 2018

AdkAction developed and launched the inaugural Keeseville Plein Air Festival in 2017 in an effort to bring the attention of talented artists to the hamlet of Keeseville, NY and aid in community revitalization efforts.  The first year of the event included over 60 artworks created by 21 participating artists. Over $8000 in artwork was sold, benefiting the artists and local community revitalization efforts. This annual event is a great opportunity for artists to experience the wonder of Keeseville’s historic architecture, the famous AuSable Chasm and other local rivers and lakes, and the breathtaking agricultural community.

2018 Keeseville Plein Air Festival

June 20 - 24, 2018

1719 Block Gallery, 1719 Main Street

Keeseville, NY

We are offering an orientation day complete with a Plein Air Painting workshop and community tours, 3 days of outdoor painting, visits to local farms and a farm brewery, tours, and nightly entertainment.

Art collectors and community members are invited to attend the "Wine and Cheese Preview Party" at 6:00 PM on Saturday, June 23rd and to the "Art Show and Sale" on Sunday from 10am - 3pm to view and buy art created during the festival.

2018 Schedule

June 20 (optional): "Introduction to Plein Air Painting Approach" with the 2017 Keeseville Plein Air Festival winner, Kari Ganoung-Ruiz in the morning (8 am - 11 am) with community tours to help artists get inspired in the afternoon and early evening.

June 21: Paint the Water: Artists are encouraged to paint the breathtaking AuSable Chasm or the calmer waters of the AuSable river that run through the town.  Scenes from Lake Champlain and Augur Lake are also encouraged.

June 22: Paint the Town: Paint the beautiful historic architecture in Keeseville. Focus on the unique stone buildings, one of the 3 historic bridges, or one of the incredible homes downtown.

Bonus: "Better Days." Artists are encouraged to paint scenes of anything human-built that has "seen better days." In seeing structures crumble, we can often also find the beauty of nature and the potential for rebirth. A portion of proceeds from the "Better Days" paintings will go directly to supporting community revitalization.

June 23: Paint the Farms: Keeseville is home to several magnificent small farms. Artists are encouraged to paint the pastures, animals, and equipment that make these places so alive.

Special Preview Party: The evening of the 4th day will feature a special preview party, providing the public with a first look at all of the paintings created during the festival. Wine and local cheeses will be available for this very fun event.

June 24: Show and Sale - AdkAction staff and volunteers will be on site to man the Show and Sale from 10am to 3pm. Artists can come down to the gallery to speak with patrons or spend the day painting whatever they choose and enjoying the community.

Stay with a host: We are often able to set up artists with a local host to eliminate lodging costs and provide a more meaningful experience. During the online registration option you will have the opportunity to indicate that you are interested in staying with a host in exchange for providing them with a small painting.

AirBnB: Many homes in Keeseville, Port Kent, and Port Douglas are listed for rent on AirBnB. Search area code 12944 to find options.

Camping: AuSable Chasm Campground is a great local option for the more adventurous types.

Hotels: Keeseville is a very small hamlet and does not have much in the way of hotels. The two options in Keeseville are the Shamrock Motel and Villa Motel.  If staying in a hotel is your preference, you may want to check out one of the many hotels in Plattsburgh, NY.

Join 2017 Keeseville Plein Air winner, Kari Ganoung Ruiz, on June 20th in Keeseville New York for an introduction to hePlein Air Painting Approach.
