Beyond the Peaks Film Festival

May 10, 2019, 5:00 - 8:00 PM at The Wild Center

AdkAction is excited to introduce the first annual 2019 Adirondack Student Film Festival on May 10, 2019 at The Wild Center and we’re looking for students, teachers and advisors who would like to participate.

For Teachers

"As a teacher, this festival provides you with a venue to take learning from the classroom into the real world.  Build confidence and creativity in your students as they take an idea and turn it into a finished work of art to share with the Adirondack community. Who knows, we could be on the verge of discovering the next Steven Spielberg!" Wendy Cross, Film teacher, Tupper Lake High School

To support interested teachers, AdkAction will provide:

-A Fall and Spring Professional Development that will prepare teachers to integrate film curricula and activities into their class or club, successfully instruct students in the filmmaking process, effectively use and onboard students to the online platform.

-An online platform to access film curricula paired with resources and to easily submit student films.

-A high energy, student-centered celebration showcasing the best student films in the Adirondacks.

Free Professional Development Opportunity

Featured Filmmaker: Evan Williams, Founder, Pure Adk

Our featured filmmaker for the 2019 Festival is Evan Williams, Founder of Pure Adk. Evan will talk about growing up in the Adirondacks, choosing a career in filmmaking and digital media and how he as been able to "Make it in the Adirondacks." Audience members will have the opportunity to view a showcase piece from Evan. Read Evan's bio to learn more:

Growing up in the Adirondacks, specifically in the small town of Wilmington near the Olympic Village of Lake Placid, I learned early on to appreciate the uniqueness of my hometown. Waking up to thick forests and old mountains outside of my window was a view that never got old. As a kid right on through high school, almost every winter weekend was spent skiing, and later instructing, at Whiteface Mountain and summers were spent boating and camping. While attending Clarkson University, I spent many weekends re-visiting the region to explore new places and expose friends to outdoor adventures like hiking in the High Peaks. I've had the opportunity to travel to some beautiful places both outside and around the USA, including the Canadian Rockies, Iceland, New Zealand, and the Virgin Islands, but I have to say the Adirondack Park rivals many places as a top destination in terms of its unique natural setting.
